About this event

  • 14 hours

Join us on Friday 24th May 2024 from 6pm for an eye-opening night spent sleeping in cardboard shelters in support of Trinity Winchester.

Enjoy on-stage live music and entertainment from Integr8 dance, Colin Bell, Swan Samba, MillieA, Diva Academy, and 5hades of Grey. Delicious food from Piecaramba, BBQ from the Hursley Butcher and our very own Trinity treats.

Our wellbeing area this year includes 3 bell tents with many activities. Relax and unwind with a yoga or reflexology session or have a go at one of our adult and children craft sessions on offer.

Create your own cardboard shelter to be in with a chance of winning prizes including vouchers for Clue Capers escape game. Categories are Best Individual Shelter, Best Family Shelter, and Best Corporate Shelter.

Winding down, we will listen to a bedtime story read by a celebrity before all non-sleepers depart at 11pm.

Join us for a night under the stars in our homemade cardboard shelters to raise vital funds and awareness for Trinity's work with homeless and vulnerable people in Hampshire.

It may not be your most comfortable night's sleep, but it will be one of your most rewarding.

Every penny that you raise in sponsorship will go back into Trinity’s services, offering long-term, positive change.

We ask participants to raise a minimum of £100 (or £50 for under 18s) in sponsorship for Trinity. Anyone who raises £150 or more will receive a free Big Sleep Out t-shirt.

Non-sleepers welcome!

Recommended age for children is 7+. Under 16's must be accompanied by an adult.

This event is not an experience of being homeless. We cannot imagine the realities of sleeping rough every night. We will return to the comfort of our homes the following morning, which is not an option for thousands of people. This event is an interesting way to raise vital funds, whilst having a challenging night.

F.A.Q’s

How do I get there?

This year the event will take place in the grounds of Winchester College. To get there please use the following postcode (SO23 9NG) and refer to the map below for directions.

Red key – from Winchester Cathedral (5min walk).

Yellow key – from Bridge Street (if driving).

Is there parking available?

There is no parking available at the College, and limited spaces along College Walk. The safest bet is to park at Chesil St Multi Storey Car Park, (SO23 0HU) from there it is a 5-8min walk to Winchester College (SO23 9NG). This car park is also free after 6pm.

Do I need to bring my own cardboard?

We will supply cardboard, courtesy of Draper Tools. Feel free to bring some extra along if you can (especially if you want to go all out with your build!).

What essentials should I bring?

Each participant will receive a goody bag, this will include items such as, a blow-up cushion, hand sanitiser, wet wipes. We suggest you bring along things such as - a sleeping bag, blanket, roll/yoga mat, ground sheet, torch, charging packs (for your phone), warm clothing, tarpaulin (if it’s a bit drizzly to keep your shelter dry). Sellotape/decorations for your shelter.

What happens if it rains?

We have a wet-weather plan in place. Music will move to New Hall (by the entrance) and sleepers will stay overnight in New Hall. All food and activities will take place under marquees.

Will the event be cash only?

There will be card machines available, please do also bring cash if you can.

How do I set up my fundraising page?

Visit our campaign page www.justgiving.com/campaign/bso24 click the orange button ‘Start fundraising’ and follow the on-screen instructions.
